When the term festivals was considered only thing to be brought in mind are holidays and sweets that meant for lots of fun.
Diwali :
Diwali, commemorates the arrival of Lord Rama and Sita from exile, is the well-liked festival of Indians. It is also entitled as the festival of lights. It usually falls between 15th October and 15th November. In night it is celebrated by lighting lamps, diyas, visiting relatives, feasting and displaying firecrackers.
Dushhara :
It symbols the victory of good over iniquity, a festival celebrated by the Hindus. On Dushhara, model of Ravana (evil) is burnt at many places and hope for humanity and courtesy universally.
Holi :
This is celebrated by all people, a festival of colours. It denotes the opening of summer season.
Ramzan Id : For Muslims, it is the most significant festival. A month long fasting and prayers is chased by Ramzan Id.
Christmas :
On the birth of Jesus Christ on 25th December every year, Christmas is celebrated by Christians all over the country and the world. Varieties of gifts as Santa Claus, gifts, cakes, cookies, and the beautifully decorated Christmas tree with a midnight mass depict the beginning of Christmas.
Easter :
It’s usually falls in the month of March or April, another important festival for Christians. 40 days fast is followed by Good Friday and Easter. On this day Jesus Christ rose from the dead and ascended into heaven.
Kumbh Mela :
This is measured to be one of the most significant religious events in India. The beginning of the festival lie in the ancient faith in the divergence between the gods and the devils over the ownership of the “Amrit Kumbh”, a pitcher filled with nectar. This fair is celebrated at four places – Haridwar, Allahabad, Nasik and Ujjain.

Pongal :
This is four day festival of the Tamil Nadu. It literally means "boiling over". The four day festival consists of Bhogi-Pongal, Surya-Pongal, Mattu-Pongal and Kanya-pongal. All quarters demonstrate their collection of dolls for three days.
Parsi New Year :
It is one of the most important days for the Parsian community. It is the beginning of a New Year packed with delight and opulence.
15th August :
It is celebrated by all Indians because on this day in the year 1947, India received independence from the British rule in India.
26th January :
It is the festival celebrated by all Indians as the Republic Day of India. In the year 1950, the constitution of India is enforced.
